Pre-publicity for the village show.
A good journalist can always ‘see the story’. A simple announcement of a show probably would not get (or merit) anything other than what journalists call a NIB (news in brief).
A story about a schoolgirl’s poster being chosen to publicise the show, especially if accompanied by a good photograph of her with her art, is likely to get a more substantial piece.
In this case, the Show Committee were delighted with this substantial part of a page not too far in advance of the show but far enough to get in readers’ diaries.
